Maia Petee is a new graduate of The University of North Texas’s interdisciplinary MS program that includes computational linguistics, computer science, and data science. After over a decade in the workforce following the completion of a BA in Linguistics and Russian, she finally figured out how to combine a love of language with an abiding interest in and growing proficiency with technology. During her time at UNT, her research interests have included computational discourse analysis, such as the automatic register transformation of dialogue and the automatic detection of propaganda techniques in news articles. She has also been able to work as a teaching assistant for the entirety of her MS, deepening an existing foundation in Linguistics and broadening an ability to convey complex information to others.
In her spare time, she enjoys embroidery, sewing, reading hard science fiction, doing what passes for hiking in north Texas, and playing post-apocalyptic RPGs. She lives in the Dallas/Fort Worth area with her husband and, circumstances permitting, one fortunate rescue kitty.
